THE MOST DAUNTING part of every Leaving Cert is the Irish Oral. And the most daunting part of every Irish Oral?
The dreaded Sraith Pictiúr.
For those of you who aren’t acquainted with the Sraith Pictiúr, here’s what you need to know.
- There are twenty picture sequences (sraith pictiúr) used in the Irish Oral. Students have to prepare a spiel about each sequence and answer questions about the pictures in the oral.
- Students only get asked about one sraith pictiúr. Despite learning off twenty.
- They are universally despised.
But while they may be instruments of torture, they have also inspired some excellent memes/tweets over the years.
Like…
This excellent meme.
Gizabitada.
Snapchat + Sraith Pictiúr = hours of fun
The pictures have ensured that the Irish tradition of storytelling is kept alive and well
“D’ól siad Druids.”
Irish teenagers have also repurposed old memes
Like this infamous one about Kim Kardashian losing her earrings in the ocean.
“Kim there’s people studying Sraith Pictiúr for their Irish Orals.”
YEAH, KIM. GET A GRIP.
Eh, what’s this Sraith Pictiúr about exactly?
Sean’s off his head on yips, is he?
“Jaysus”
There have been a number of “Was it for this?” tweets
“Lads, it’s grand”
The pictures themselves have been known to haunt students…
THEY’RE FOLLOWING US.
But once they’re done and over with? That’s when the real fun kicks in
Yes, that’s Sraith Pictiúr loo rool.
Irish students are not one bit sentimental, are they?
“Here, doggy doggy…”
Classic.
